10 Joshua then commanded the officers of Israel, 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people to get their provisions ready. In three days you will cross the Jordan River and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

"Inheritance" in the OT at first refers to the inheritance promised by God to Abraham and his descendants--the land of Canaan. Israelites came to learn that the Lord himself was the inheritance of his people and of the individual believer. In the NT, Christ is the heir by virtue of being the Son. Through Christ's redemptive work believers are sons of God by adoption and fellow-heirs with Christ. As a guarantee of "the promised eternal inheritance", Christ has given to them the Holy Spirit. The inheritance is the kingdom of God with all its blessings.
