What Where You Doing at 28?

Yesterday I got a text from a friend asking me what I was doing when I was 28.

It was 1984. A leap year starting on Sunday; The LA Raiders with their 3rd NFL Championship; the first Apple Macintosh goes on sale; Michael Jackson’s scalp catches on fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial; the Winter Olympics are held in Sarajevo; the Summer Olympics are held in Los Angeles; the first MTV Video Music Awards are held; and Ronald Reagan was elected president.

I was living and working in Illinois, had money, a career, a motorcycle; I had lots of things but was not happy or fulfilled. I was not a Christian yet, that would come two years later.

My oldest son is 28 and on Monday he and his family left in a rental truck to move to Phoenix to chase his dream to become a full time fireman. I thought about my mother, at 28 she was working a job had two children and my parents struggled to achieve the American dream.

At 28 we are fully grown up, but still trying to figure out who we are.

What were you doing at 28?
