This is an interesting picture that I took recently.
“Interesting”, there is so much power in this one word. This one word can mean so many things. I even train our engineering staff and sales staff to use this word when working with customers. Remember the customer may not be right, but they are never wrong. I tell them to respond with “interesting” instead of telling the customer they just had a dumb thought.
It can mean how totally cool, tell me more or it can me that is really bad, how could you say that. I learned this word/phrase from a friend of mine in Illinois, she uses it in almost every situation and uses it to encourage even when you say something totally stupid. It is a phrase that has served me well in my professional and my personal life. It has become my first response to any situation that may be hard or when the wrong response may hurt someone.
Interesting is a word that fits every situation. It is a word that does not pass judgment and leaves room for interpretation and continued communication. Isn’t that what we all want is the chance to make dumb statements from time to time without judgment and leaving the door open for communication.
So the next time you are in a situation and you are left struggling with how to respond, just nod your head and say, “interesting” and let the other person lead the conversation from there.
By the way that picture above was from behind a waterfall, the shot below was taken from just outside the waterfall.
