My Liliac Bush

I love lilacs in the spring. As a child we lived on a farm for a short period of time. This farmhouse was 100+ years old. Yes, it was built before Washington became a state. I was only about 7 and the lilac bush was my favorite place to play. These bushes were probably as old as the house it self and so they have strong branches and were just the right size for me to be able to climb. I could even hide inside of them and not be seen from the outside when they were in full leaf. I would crawl inside the bushes to just get away from everything and to dream about all the things I would do as a grown up. Any time I smell fresh lilacs I think of the dreams I had for my life.

Since that time I have had lilac bushes at each of the homes I have lived in and on Sunday I planted lilac bush at the house we moved into 2 ½ years ago. When I finished planting it I thought finally, it is a home, a house of my dreams. I can hardly wait until spring when I have lilacs of my own again and to dream new dreams under my lilac bush.
